Cars are a great way to practice your drawing skills and fine tune your style. There are many instructional videos available from the likes of Scott Robertson who can provide you with some really useful information and design ideas. The first step for any budding artist wishing to design the ultimate cool car is to practice your drawing skills. Cars are comprised of a series of lines, curves and ellipses and for the most part you should learn to draw all these free hand especially the curves which will differ as they travel around the vehicle.
Set aside some time to sit down with some blank, cheap paper and a simple pencil. Place three dots somewhere on the page and practice joining them up. It sounds simple but you would be amazed how difficult it is to hit the dots precisely with an unpracticed hand. This can help develop how smooth your curves and lines are. Do this with two dots to practice straight lines and just have a go at filling a whole page with different ellipses. A useful tip to drawing a great straight line is to use your whole arm. Try not to use your wrist when you draw, take your whole arm the length of the line and practice it a couple of times before you put the pencil in contact with the paper.
When you have put in some good practice groundwork you can move on to looking at perspective. The same car shown as a two dimensional image will have a drastic look and feel change when displayed as a front three quarter view or if you have a great hold of perspective already you can try it out with a fish eye lens technique. The right perspective can make your car dynamic, engaging and cool. Even if your car has a simple basic design, adding a one point perspective can create action and realism for your car and has a completely different impact on the beholder than a stationary, stoic 2D design.
Don’t forget your car wheels. Many vehicle artists spend more time on the car wheels than any other part. For the hubcaps alone you can have a large variety of designs, the wheels can be large with sunken hubcaps, they can have 5 or 12 spokes they can be regulated spokes or inverse triangular in shape. Have fun mixing and matching hubcap designs and exaggerating aspects of your vehicle. You can even play around with the wheel sizes having large wheels, small wheels, or large back wheel and small front wheels.
If your car design isn’t what you want it to be entirely, then pick up a piece of paper and overlay your design. Trace the overall shape of the design you like and the aspects of your drawing you want to keep. Develop the idea further on your new design. Try out different models and version of your original car design until you find one you are happy with. Learning the steps is important when learning how to draw cool cars.

Sketches of Cars – How Easy it Can Be

Have you always wanted to do your own sketches of cars? Have you looked at other sketches and wished you could draw like that? You have this desire to do car drawings and you just don’t know where to begin, right?
Well, I can help you with your troubles.
When you are learning to draw cars, forget two dimension and three dimension. Concentrate on learning to draw the car first. All learning has to be done progressively.
The best way to take proportional drawing out of the equation is to sketch a side-on view of a car.
If you’re not comfortable sitting out in the open drawing a real car, get yourself a good clear photo or picture to copy from. It must be side-on view only. This is the easiest possible way to draw a car.
Are you thinking “But I can’t really draw?” That’s not true, you can draw if you set your mind to it. If you have the desire to draw, you will be able to draw.
Do you remember learning how to write at school? Did you know that letters of our alphabet were originally pictures or symbols? Well, they were and when you were learning how to write, you were also learning how to draw. Unfortunately, most of us stopped once we knew how to write each letter.
To do sketches of cars, you only need to remember to take one step at a time. By removing proportions and dimensions, you are simplifying the task at hand.
Let’s say you are copying from a picture. You need to break it down into these 4 do-able parts.
1. Draw a border on your paper, to match the same dimensions as the picture.
2. Next, use your pencil (instead of a ruler) to measure the bonnet – mark the points on your paper in the same position where the bonnet lies in your picture. Make these marks to be little strokes that you can see.
3. Now measure the roof of the car with your pencil and mark that point on your paper. That is, from the end of the bonnet to the end of the roof.
4. Measure and mark from the end of the roof to the end of the boot.
By doing this small exercise, you are removing a lot of pain just to get the size right. This isn’t cheating, you still have to draw the car! But, it’s giving you a good head start by marking the size of the car on your paper. If you want to, you can do all of the points around the whole car, including the distance from the car to the ground.
Now you can have a go at copying the car to the best of your ability. All you need to do is look closely at your subject and sketch the car as you see it. Those little marks have come in very handy, haven’t they?
This action will cut your work in half and I think you will have a decent car sketch sitting right in front of you. Yes, you drew that!
The important thing, when you are learning how to do sketches of cars, is to make the task as easy as you possibly can. Everyone learns how to draw simply by taking tiny steps.

If you think drawing cool cars is impossible, let me tell you something. You’re DEAD WRONG. How do I know? Because I had the same thought myself, just last year. And now, and I’m trying not to brag here, I draw cool cars like it was nothing. And you can too.
- So what is the secret? What do you have to do?
The biggest secret is practice. Yeah, I know, that’s SOME secret right there. But before you can practice, you need to learn the right guidelines. You need to know where to start, what to do after and how to finish, in order for the car to be as awesome as we both know it can and should be. To begin with, here’s a couple of tips:
+ Be relaxed and take it easy. There’s nothing worse than rushing a drawing. If you’re stuck on one little details, just sit back and relax, maybe even put the drawing away for a couple of hours. And then see what you can do. For me, that’s all it takes. I used to sit there for hours working on one little detail I never got right, but just chill. Believe me, it works.
+ Do you have a picture of a car that is just SOO sweet? Copy it. Set it before you and draw it. Start with the basic shape and form of the car, and when that’s done: work on those little details. Again: if you at any point get frustrated just leave it. Put the drawing down and take a few minutes off.
I can’t stress that enough: Working slow is always best when drawing. Work slow and follow the guidelines you get. That’s the best way to learn How To Draw Cool Cars.

How to Draw Cars – Things to Think About When Drawing Cool Cars

Learning how to draw cars isn’t as difficult as you think it is. In fact, it’s not difficult at all. All you need is a little practice, and a few pointers to get you going. With practice and the right guidelines anyone can master drawing cool cars. And as you’re reading this article, I’m betting you want to learn how to draw cool cars.
Obviously, the first thing you need is a piece of paper. Next thing you need is a good pencil. Now it’s important to know one thing. Awesome drawing supplies WILL NOT make you an awesome artist, though it doesn’t hurt having a good pencil to work with. A good pencil, a piece of paper, plus a will to really get this down is all you need. Keep practicing every day, and keep everything you draw. After drawing for only 10 days, go back and look at your previous drawings. Studying them will give you the motivation you need to keep on going.
An important thing to think about is your environment where you’re drawing. To draw at your best, you need to be comfortable where you’re at. You also need a good surface to draw on. Whatever you do draw on, you have to make sure it doesn’t wobble, and that it’s level.
The actual drawing process is easy. Start out with the basic shape of the car. If it helps, draw squares and circels to help you out. You can always remove them later. Do not focus on the little details too early. That is a mistake most beginners make. If you made a square, start in the square with drawing the basic shape of the car. Don’t be too hard with the pencil, as you might want to erase the lines and make everything perfect later. The best thing to to is probably to draw so that you barely see it, and make everything more visible later on. When doing that you won’t have to start over when making a mistake.
When you have the basic shape of the car as you want it, you should work on the wheels. Should they stand out compared to the rest of the car? Should it be more subtle? Start out with a complete circle, and then remove the part that is under the car. When you have the basic shape of the wheel ready, go on to the next part. I’ll say it again, save the details for later. You want to make everything to fit together, and you should have that clear before moving on to the details. When everything is ready, you can start on those details. After all, it’s the details that are important when learning how to draw cool cars.

How to Draw Cars – 3 Tips on How to Draw Cars That Look Realistic!

I know a lot of people who get frustrated when they spend a lot of time and effort drawing cars and end up with disappointing results. 1. Tones and Contrast
What can often turn one of my lousy car sketches into a car drawing that looks like it’s about to drive off my page is the proper use of tone and contrast. This is a difficult technique to perfect and requires a bit of practice and a good eye.
Something you can do right now to make your cars look real, is copy photos of actual cars. But turn these photos into a black and white form. This makes it much easier to visualize how dark or light you need to shade a particular portion of your car. Make sure you have a few different types of pencils on hand to achieve this look!
2. Drawing in Perspective
Angles and perspective can turn an average drawing into a masterpiece! This is a very important skill to acquire when learning how to draw cars. To draw a car in perspective, you need to first create a side view of your vehicle. Then project the major points to a point on the page above your car of your choosing. The point you project to will determine the extent of the perspective.
3. Shadows
Everything creates a shadow. So when you want to learn how to draw cars that look real, you have to give your cars some shadows. For now these don’t have to be too complex, but try to imagine sunlight coming from a single source at a point of your choice on the piece of paper. You can then project lines from this point and offset them slightly when they hit your car. Then use a dark pencil and shade a strong shadow on the ground under your car. This will add a lot of depth and realism to your drawings.
